ABOUT OUR RACE

The Hawthorn Half Day Relay and Ultra began in 2006 as a 12-hour event for Teams of 6, Teams of 2 and individual runners. In 2015 we added a 6-hour event for Teams of 3 and individual runners. Both events start at 7:00 a.m. There are multiple divisions and age groups in which you can compete. Runners compete on a 5K loop throughout the day. Once there is less than 30 minutes to go in the race, runners will only be allowed to go out on the "short course"; 1K for the 6-hour event and 1/2 mile for the 12-hour event. Runners must cross the finish line prior to time expiring in order to receive credit for that lap. The winners in each division/age group are those that complete the most miles in the allotted time.

We provide cold Gatorade, cold water, salty snacks, fruit, nuts, etc. throughout the day. Updates are provided approximately every hour, starting at 10:00 a.m. We normally have a massage therapist onsite beginning around 1:00 p.m.

All participants receive a custom finisher's medal. Awards for the 6-hour race will be presented around 1:45 p.m. After the 12-hour race there is a meal provided for the 12-hour participants and awards will be presented around 7:45 p.m.

2017 RECAP

This year's race was 3 weeks early than in previous years and we hoped to avoid the hot and humid weather of June in Indiana. The race started off a little chilly, and then it rained and stormed for a few hours, eventually giving away to a few hours of hot, steamy weather before clouding over the last hour of the race. We had one 12-hour record broken this year. Karen Kramer improved on her previous record by walking 47.0 hours. There were a number of new records in the 6-hour race, including the winning male, Brandon Walker with 39.06 miles and Lizzie Alexander with 37.20 miles.

Below is a list of the winners. All the results can be found on our results page by going to the tab at the top of the page.

Overall Male Winner (12 hours) - Daniel Campbell 65.00 miles
Overall Female Winner (12 hours) - Majel Wells 63.00 miles
Overall Male Winner (6 hours) - Brandon Walker 39.06 miles
Overall Female Winner (6 hours) - Lizzie Alexander 37.20 miles
Team of 2 Winners (12 hours) - Homie, Drone me a Beer! 69.70 miles
Team of 6 Winners (12 hours) - Fit Fun Fast Mommas 84.60 miles
Team of 3 Winners (6 hours) - Skeleton Squad 46.50 miles
